Three things we learned about the Gators from Saturday’s game:
Florida coach Will Muschamp is determined to have a power running game. Tailback Mike Gillislee ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and Muschamp admitted he forced new offensive coordinator Brent Pease to run the ball on just about every third-and-short situation because he wants to establish a physical mindset along the offensive line. The bad news: The Gators were only 1-of-8 on third-and-short (2 yards or less).
Quarterback Jeff Driskel obviously performed better during fall drills than did Jacoby Brissett. Driskel missed some time with a banged-up shoulder and still won the starting quarterback job (at least for one week.)
Gator fans aren’t excited about this team. The crowd of 84,000-plus Saturday was about 4,000 less than the home opener last year, which ended a streak of 137 straight sellouts for the Gators.
